A Visitor

There is a stunning anachronism at the Halebeedu temple. In the pantheon of Gods.. each adorned in plush ornaments, you suddenly perceive an austere image clad in a gown!! Yes, nothing less than a gown.

You can speculate on the intention of the sculptor, or credit him with uncanny sartorial foresight, but that the image should sport a ring and a sceptre suggests that it must be a religious head. Since they were used mainly in west, the image could be of a visiting Western dignitary. Anyway, anachronism in religious places are seen worldwide, like the images of UFOs in frescoes of churches!
